You have to give credit where credit is due and let’s talk about how resilient the Latinx community is in general. Despite the opportunity gap between Latinx and other Americans, Latinx have become the fastest-growing small business owners across the U.S.

Beauty Behind the Brand

We are honored to kick this new year off with a beaming brand, and beauty, SunKiss Organics by Jessica Jade. "I am comfortable in my own skin.” This is a mantra that Jessica Jade, founder, and CEO of SunKiss Organics, used to remind herself that even at the height of her skin troubles, everything is temporary and that she had the power to heal her skin. With painfully itchy rashes, scars that quite literally took over her body, and medical treatments that seemed to make it worse, Jessica remembers “begging to God to heal me.”

…there have been some bright spots for beauty brands amid the pandemic. They’ve focused on efficient strategies, leaned into their strengths and fostered loyal audiences. Most of all, they shifted quickly, then shifted again and continue to shift. Beauty Independent checked in with 50 beauty and wellness brands about the short-term pivots they were forced to make, how they think the global health crisis will alter the way they do business over the long-term, and the new normal for the beauty industry post-pandemic.

Beauty, Wellness, Home + Art

The pandemic has been rough, the civil unrest has been traumatic, and juggling my responsibilities as a wife, mother, working professional, and an active member of my community has been the absolute most. Like many of you, I am trying to keep it all together while making sure that self-care doesn’t completely fall off of my list of things to do. Making the time and channeling the patience to successfully nail down an effective and sustainable skincare routine has been a sanctuary in the midst of the chaos, thanks to a few amazing Black-owned skincare brands and a will to come out of quarantine serving face. Here’s the routine that I’ve been following that has transformed my skin.

As its name suggests, Inside Outer Beauty Market is all about nurturing beauty both internally and externally. Its wellness-focused brand and product spread is a true feast. Founded by Dixie Lincoln-Nichols, the retailer believes all women deserve to live their healthiest lives, and their mission is to make it both fun and unbiased.

There’s also the rare occasion that you stumble across an unbelievable dupe or testimonial buried inside a random Reddit thread (our personal favorite). But more often than not, we discover our tried-and-true gems by way of recommendations from our girlfriends. They’re the ones who can give us a full breakdown of the pros and cons, in addition to telling us if they truly think it will for us, too. In short: These are the trusted reviews you get straight with no chaser and for that, we are thankful.
